SALDI (SALE)

January & July mark the sale periods here in Italy...and not just Italy, but many European countries. In fact, you never see a sale otherwise (except for "going out of business"), so this is an important time for Europeans. I just read the other day about it in "The Economist":

"Try France, where sales will by law begin only on January 9th.
Or Belgium: not only are sales banned before January 3rd but,
under "pre-sales" rules, for six weeks beforehand shops cannot
announce price reductions, lest somebody jumps the gun."

Small shop owners are, therefore, able to stay in business! There is also a cap on price reductions! No "buy one get one free" here! The most you can discount is 33% (buy two and get a third thrown in). So, don't be so glum about sale after sale in the States...!

I was wondering why everyone had sale signs in the windows! There is this cute shoe store on our street that I want to buy from and I am now tempted because the prices are more reasonable with the discount. I did see one store that advertised 60%! I couldn't believe it, most I see are 20%
